Summary assessments
"Summative" assessments are established to enable tutors to evaluate and assign a mark to the learning of their students at a given time. The assigned grade contributes to the final outcome of the student grade.
The most important thing when completing any form of evaluation or examination is to establish the goal posts, noting:
The exact details of the assignment, including instructions on the format, presentation and structure
The qualification criteria for the evaluation
The "expected learning outcomes" for the course, ie what the tutor has stated that he expects to be able to demonstrate to pass the course
These should be available in the manuals, through Blackboard and / or in the course unit schemes distributed by the leader of the course unit.
